8 Ways To Prevent An Angry Lifestyle

Minimizing Problems With Anger Management

There are a number of things you can do in structuring your life to prevent anger from becoming problematic.

1.) Make a personal commitment to calmness.

maximilien-t-scharner-318691.jpgPhoto by Maximilien T’Scharner on Unsplash

Calmness is freedom from agitation in the face of a
provoking situation-and calmness is a choice. It doesn’t
happen by accident, and may start with a statement like
this, “I promise to stay calm at work for one whole day.”
It takes practice, but the payoff is immense-calmness
promotes an internal sense of peace and tranquility-truly
a gift in our hectic lives!

2.) Anticipate and intercept your anger and frustration-and plan accordingly.morgan-basham-364865.jpg

Photo by Morgan Basham on Unsplash

For example, let’s say Mondays are always hectic for you
and there’s nothing to be done to move things around to
change it. Get proactive! You might try beginning a
routine that includes getting to bed a half hour earlier
the night before. Monday morning you may try getting
up earlier to have a good breakfast and
spend some extra time with your family before you
head into the chaos. Remind yourself on the way to
work you can choose to stay calm throughout the day
no matter what. And if the prospect of staying late at
the office or store makes you crazy for fear of missing
your favorite Monday night television program, tape it
for later viewing!

3.) Realize you can say no to your anger.gemma-evans-131781.jpg

Photo by Gemma Evans on Unsplash

We all receive numerous “invitations to anger” every
day-inconveniences, inconsiderate people, equipment
breakdowns, traffic jams-you name it! You don’t have to
get angry just because you could.

4.) Avoid useless or trivial conflictsfrida-bredesen-317281.jpg

Pick your conflicts very carefully!

5.) Accept differences in others.levi-saunders-133027.jpg

Photo by Levi Saunders on Unsplash

So many conflicts arise from the inability to accept and
respect differences in our family members, coworkers,
bosses, etc. It is easy to translate “you do things
differently than I do” to “you’re wrong.” Personal and
business relationships are enhanced with diversity~creativity
is increased, better solutions are arrived at
when problem solving, etc. Learn to view differences
with an appreciative spirit.

6.) Praise instead of punish.xan-griffin-420173.jpg

Photo by Xan Griffin on Unsplash

We live in a society that is starved for praise and
recognition. We are interdependent beings who need
affirmation and positive regard from others to feel
whole. One way to feel less prone to anger and to
decrease the potential for conflict is to keep an eye out
for the positives and continually acknowledge them in

7.) Exercise self-care.ovayo-ntlabati-418459.jpg

Photo by Ovayo Ntlabati on Unsplash

Good care and maintenance of your body is essential
for the prevention of anger. Feeling better physically
typically leads to a better spirit, which in turn serves as
a buffer against the many annoyances in daily life. Think
of the acronym HALT to begin focusing on this all-important

H – Hunger
A – Anxious
L – Lonely
T – Tired

The idea is that you are more likely to succumb to anger
when confronted with a situation when you are under
the influence of one of these factors, and extremely
likely when operating under more than one.

Hunger: While physical hunger can certainly fray one’s
spirits, this can refer to other types of hunger as well.
For example, you may be hungry for some attention,
affection, or affirmation. Remember to feed your body
physiologically, but also do things, which feed your soul
as well.

Anxiety: Anxiety and anger reinforce one another. Both
are part of the body’s natural “fight or flight” response
to perceived threats. Although anxiety can be low-key,
there can also be a buildup effect of being continually
confronted by situations, which trigger fear and concern.
The key antidote to anxiety is learning the technique of
relaxation. When learned well and practiced daily,
relaxation lowers stress and reduces the tendency to
“fight or flight” responses.

Loneliness: Loneliness may be an issue in the personal
realm or at work. Individuals may be experiencing
relationship difficulties in their families, or feeling estranged from their peers in the workplace. This may
make them more vulnerable to anger evoking
situations. Take steps to ensure you have an adequate
family or social support system-it’s one of the most
positive things you can do for the quality of your life,
and for your physical health!

Tiredness: Getting enough rest at today’s hectic pace is
most assuredly a challenge. But the low-grade fatigue
so characteristic of so many Americans can easily make
one much more susceptible to the many invitations to
anger extended every day. Getting proper rest coupled
with regular exercise is essential.

8.) Maintain proper balance.form-426157.jpg

Bear in mind that a healthy lifestyle involves a balanced
focus on being, belonging, and doing. Take time for selfdiscovery
(being), social relationships (belonging), and
work you enjoy (doing). Remember that any one arena
typically cannot fulfill all three needs and structure your
life accordingly. Maximum life satisfaction is achieved
when balance is struck among all three aspects. On the
other hand, frustration builds when these needs are not
honored, and the tendency to look for things going
wrong is increased, thus making one more susceptible
to anger.

“It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.
It doesn’t interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive.
It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon. I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life’s betrayals or have become shriveled and closed from fear of further pain!I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it or fade it, or fix it.
I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own, if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, to be realistic, to remember the limitations of being human.
It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me is true. I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself; if you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul; if you can be faithlessand therefore trustworthy.
I want to know if you can see beauty even when it’s not pretty, every day,and if you can source your own life from its presence.
I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand on the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, “Yes!”
It doesn’t interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up, after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone, and do what needs to be done to feed the children.
It doesn’t interest me who you know or how you came to be here. I want to know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me and not shrink back.
It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom you have studied. I want to know what sustains you, from the inside, when all else falls away.
I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.”

A Day in my Life: The Eye Exam

The Eyeglasses Prescription After Several (I Lost Count) Years

I had to get an eye exam on yesterday (12/15/17) because the year is coming to an end & I needed to use my Vision Insurance. I know my eyes were bad years ago after having to get the lenses rolled & polished to help with the thickness. I have been wearing glasses since I was in the eighth (8th) grade & now that I am older I felt the need to share the results of my prescription

After having my eyes examed I asked the doctor had my eyes gotten worse, so he said I will be more than happy to measure your current eyeglasses. OH MY GOD, I really wanted to scream……girl-2584728_1920.jpg because now I have to wear no line bifocials, but hey it’s all apart of my well aging…I’m Antique! Yet well polished to be 45 makhmutova-dina-276123.jpgPhoto by Makhmutova Dina on Unsplash

I am nearsighted (not seeing things in the distance) & I have been since I first started with wearing glasses. This minor infarction formed from sitting too close to the damn T.V. Oh well they have been a part of my everyday life for quite sometimes now & they are a must have.

Now! I am all done, the exam is complete & I was given a copy of my prescription & didn’t have a clue what the numbers or abbreviations on the prescription meant. To be honest I never was interested until now because the numbers didn’t look the same. Asking the doctor would have not broke it down in the terms I need for my clear understanding, so I turned to my friend “Google”

I researched an article on How To Read Your Eyeglass Prescription by Gary Heiting, OD to help me understand my prescription after all these years. I just knew my vision had begun to progress more for my age because I had started looking over my glasses or take them off & bring somethings closer just to read. Damn why did I neglect my eyes all these years. scott-van-daalen-202643.jpgPhoto by Scott Van Daalen on Unsplash

The abbreviations on your prescription maybe different so you can also refer back to the article that I listed above or referenced at the end of this post.

My Prescription:

DIST: (R) SPH -600 CYL -025 AXIS 95

DIST: (L) SPH -575 CYL -050 AXIS 85

ADD: (R) +125

ADD: (L) +125

  • High Index
  • Progressive Lenses

Other: Polish

Breaking Down My Eyeglass Prescription

*Distance (DIST) is the power of the lens the doctor prescribes so I can see things in the distance. This is determined by reading the eye chart in front of you.

*Sphere (SPH) is measured in diopters to get my vision corrected to 20/20. The (-) minus is for nearsightedness (Myopia). When this number is far from zero the correction needed will be greater.

*Cylinder (CYL) is the power in the lenses to correct an astigmetism. The (-) minus or (+) plus sign with this number will aid in determining the lenses prescribed by the doctor.

*AXIS will be a number from 1 to 180 to determine where the cylinder power of the lenses will be located to correct the astigmatism. Cylinder power in the lenses will run asymmetrically appearing in only one meridian  of the lenses. The axis ( I am pretty sure you all have figured it out by now that my progressive lenses will be no line bifocials) is the base of the meridian and contains sphere power located 90 degrees from the meridian where te cylinder power is located.

*ADD this power is magnifying and added to the distance. This restores my nearsightedness because I am an antique adult & therefore can’t escape presbyopia. These numbers are usually the same ranging from +0.75D to +3.00D.

  • High Index- literally means thin lenses because they would be coke bottle thick
  • Progressive Lenses- because I am 40 (+) it will offer a younger appearance and they offer so many other advantages.

Other: Polish (rolled & polished) lenses is just a little extra madness so I can remain young & sexy.

My Finances: Crying

The Vision Insurance only paid for one lens basically: WTF

One Lens:$168.00

One Lens:$168.00

Third Party-$169.80 (INSURANCE)

My debit card is offended for $258.74

Let’s Have A Christmas Blog Party

How Do You Feel During The Holidays?

I really can’t explain how I feel, but at times I feel sort of numb around the holidays. I have been feeling this way for the last past four years. I’m pretty sure it’s because of living in this one room versus living in a fully equipped home or an apartment with my two boys:

DeVonte’ Maurice Abner

Age 25

Romero Pierre’ Abner

Age 22

and my two beautiful

Lexi & Zoey

This time of the year, I would be planning my feast of different dishes to serve to my love ones. Extremely excited, waiting on the phone calls in the wee-wee hours of the morning because they already knew the appetizers would be prepared & waiting on the first caller.

The smell would be in the air; crockpot’s simmering with mouth watering:

  • Meatballs
  • Cocktail Sausages
  • Rotel & Chips

There would be a variety of flavored drumettes:

  • Hot Wings ( My oldest son’s favorite)
  • Lemon Pepper
  • Honey BBQ

Oh my, & the poor deviled eggs, I would have to prepare them and hide the extra tray in the fridge because they could be easily devoured.

  • Baked Beans
  • Ham
  • Turkey
  • Sausage Dressing
  • Potato Salad
  • Crab Salad
  • Tuna Salad & Crackers
  • Mac & Cheese

When I say a feast, the main courses would literally be in 3 or 4 pans a piece. I wanted to make sure everyone who came through my doors at my home would eat good there & be able to gather a few to-go plates. Or perhaps, just come back the next couple of days.

I was never the cake baker from scratch…LOL, but I would have a couple of Duncan’s & Betty’s in the midst of all these wonderful feastings. The sweet potato pies were just an additional treat.

This is what I really miss during the holidays & it really seems as if it was a lifetime ago. However, there were some great memories created during those times that I will never forget.

To keep myself inspired I simply keep smiling & say I’m retired. Ms Flo3.jpg

I actually consider myself retired from numerous things of my past, but perhaps that can be another blog post.

Always Remembering Ashlee Abner & LaShundra Croskey

How Not To Live? Or Is It OK

Where To Start Picking Up The Pieces?

It’s Time For A Christmas Blog Party

Is Change Affecting Your Life?

The Benefits of Scheduling My Posts

When I started this blog I had no idea it would come this far. However, scheduling can be a task when you have a full-time job. There are also other things in life that can take place that you have no control over. Let’s take today for a prime example! I had nothing scheduled because I was in the bed after I got off work early Friday feeling like crap. I have a cold that has been trying to get the best of me. Luckily, here I am right now trying to maintain my scheduIe I had set out for myself. First, I think with me still being New To Blogging! I should have stayed away from having a post available for everyday of the week. But, hey I am learning so much about blogging & always keep a notebook & a pen.

planning-2573116.pngWhat the hell, I really loved the challenge I set for myself. Being on a schedule gave me time to organize my emails so I can be totally be engaged with other readers. My emails for blogging initially started out with folders labeled:

  1. Bloggers New Comments (allows me to see new readers when they comment on blogs like Dream Big, Dream Often & Damn, Girl Get Your Shit Together & the comments left for To Inspire Us!
  2. Bloggers New Post (300+)
  3. Liked Post (readers that liked my post)
  4. Liked Comments (readers that liked comments I left)

Since the bloggers new post generates the most traffic, I decided to give everyone I am engaged with their own folder. This is a way for me to be a real reader of new post, like, comment & share to my other social media platforms. With that being said, I would love to continue to be on a schedule, but I am not sure if it will be everyday of the week. Although I must admit it has been quite fun as well as challenging.

Scheduled post also allowed me to take care of myself with this minor chest cold with:

  • Lipton Greentea Orange Passionfruit Jasmine (hot) with a honey lemon cough drop, a little sweetner, & a cap of liquor
  • Vicks Vapor Rub
  • Day & Nighttime Severe tablets

I really felt obligated to myself as well as my readers in the community to maintain my schedule. Y’all be blessed & take good care of yourselves in this weather.
